New Zealand Athletes on Facebook

Had a good final day in Medemblik, after spending the morning watching the other medal races online (amazing tech by the way – best we have seen – 3D and everything!!), we got out there and after a rather shaky start – we had support on shore cringing… We got right back in there to round the top mark in 3rd, then chipped away at the boats ahead. After a good little battle with the American girls, we took the lead half way up the last beat, and stayed ahead to win the race, and therefore the regatta overall…

So thats two for two as far as EuroSaf events go.. and even more importantly, we are now heading south to warmer climates!! Off to Formia, in Italy for our European Champs which start in early June. Definitely time for some sun and warmth!!!

Thanx to Simon Cooke for making it over here to coach us for this event, its been great to have a new set of eyes on the water! and some good stories for off the water!!

Won the final race @DeltaLloydRegat to take out this 2nd @EUROSAF event in style..Jo’s beanie only added to our form. http://t.co/oaGdNEQIIu

London Gold Medallists win the 470 in both the women and the men events…
Despite the crazy results and arctic temperatures at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik (Netherlands) it looked like a blast.

Final results just in from the men’s windsurfing fleet at Delta Lloyd Regatta has proven ONCE again that the new scoring systems that are being FORCED on the athletes are fundamentally flawed.

It is pretty clear when an athlete dominates an entire regatta and is rewarded with a 4th that the scoring systems are not working…nice work Dorian van Rijsselberghe.

Another blustery Medemblik day, with some lovely rain squalls to top it off.. The last three races went ok, we were up there in the first race of the day but missed the huge left shift on the final beat and ended up with a 6th – our drop of the event… So we thought we better do a little better in the next two, which we did, with a 1,1, to finish off with.

We had some great battles with the British, and now we go into the ‘final race’ carrying a 1st, with them in 2nd… So pretty much it all starts again tomorrow with what is essentially a winner takes all ‘final race’.

Forecast looks a little suspect.. wind and rain, maybe some thunderstorms if we are lucky!! Then its time to pack up and head somewhere warmer!!

Last day of the opening series today @DeltaLloydRegat, finished off with a shocker, then two wins.. COLD again.. with nice rain squalls..

We hit the water at 8.30am this morning.. and let me tell you.. it was not warm. Putting our wet gloves on actually hurt… Taking them home to dry them tonight!!!

After we got over the shock of the cold.. (or went numb) we managed to get through three races.. The wind was a little shifty and crazy, with some big rain squalls coming through all morning… We had some mixed races, with the results showing a 2,1,2, however we were up and down at times, and made a few more mistakes than we would have liked.

Not sure how much to blame brain freeze, and the fact that Jo was struggling to hold onto ropes.. pulling things on took about three times the normal time! Rather frustrating, and Polly got a little grumpy in race 1 (and Jo did too) – it was just that cold.

A lot happier now sitting at home with soup and the heaters on! Have to go back down to the boat soon to do some boat work though.. just psyching ourselves up for that!!

Then we have three more races tomorrow to conclude the ‘opening series’ after which we have the race of for the medals – the ‘final race’ which counts for almost more than the four days racing preceding it! A little crazy….

Some pics from yesterday!

The photography team Delta Lloyd Regatta have taken some great shots of the kiwis in action on day two in Medemblik…
Solid gate session went down yesterday with the boys and chucking down the dollar bills for hole shots made you work even harder
