The Pines rest in the middle of the two-square mile town of Indian Harbour Beach. The Atlantic is a mile east, and Orlando is about an hour northwest. It’s your typical beachside town, except for one thing: The Pines sits on the edge of the Banana River, and adjacent to the put-in to a seven-mile stretch of canal that is almost perfect for long-distance flatwater spring training

This important and new addition to the calendar this year saw a strong fleet of 75-odd competitors. Planning and managing Open Water events is never easy and organizers were anxiously checking the weather updates every day in the week prior. In the end we were reasonably lucky to get a sunny autumn day, moderate 14 knot SW wind & a southerly swell
