GREAT Britain’s Micky Yule recorded a new personal best on his way to victory in the BWAD National Powerlifting Championships at Stoke Mandeville.The Lincoln-based Scot lifted 182kg in the 72kg class, a PB by 6kg and 7kg more than he lifted at the recent European Championships in Russia.The event saw 27 athletes in action, with a good mix of experience and newcomers to the sport taking part.Among the athletes taking part in their first competition was Panagiotis Mamuneas in the 54kg class, who put in three successful lifts to finish on 90kg and win his group.Nathanial Wilding demonstrated excellent technique and looked strong with three good lifts on his way to a total of 108kg.London Olympic bronze medallist Zoe Newson recorded a PB of 92kg in the 45kg class, while also recording a PB was Dan Steward who lifted 112kg in the 72kg class.Adam Alderman was also in great form, lifting 132kg in the 54kg class, while another London Olympian, Natalie Blake lifted 95kg.

The GB Rowing Team has switched Olympic bronze medallist James Foad and newcomer Matt Gotrel into its two men’s eights for the world cup at Eton Dorney next week (June 21- 23). A series of powerlifting talent assessment days will be run by British Weight Lifting, as part of the UK Talent Team and British Paralympic Association’s Paralympic Potential Bring on Brazil campaign.The events will be hosted at the Glasgow Emirates Stadium on June 15-16 and at Aston University in Birmingham on June 29-30.The campaign aims to identify male and female athletes aged between 16-35 across all Paralympic classifications, with the drive and determination to win at the Paralympics.“It is a fantastic opportunity for BWL to be part of such a campaign as there has already been a number of talent confirmation athletes that have been identified at previous British Paralympic Associations events such as Sport Fest,” said BWL’s Talent Pathway Manager Dan Wagner.“Not only does it provide an opportunity to identify potential talent but it also provides a platform to promote the sport and the wider organisation. I will be accompanied at the assessment events by BWL Squad Coach Neil Crosbie and BWL Physio Suzanne Basnett who will provide advisory classification to each individual athlete.”
